The Classical Academy (TCA) swept Eagle Valley 25-12, 25-23, 25-20 in the first round of the 4A state volleyball tournament at the Denver Coliseum on Thursday.
The Devils jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the second set before the Titans went on a momentum-changing 11-2 run. Eagle Valley regained the lead 21-20, but were unable to close things out.
A similar narrative was written in the third. Eagle Valley held an early 10-9 advantage before a 4-0 Titan run flipped the script. The Devils pulled within three, 17-14, but were unable to get the lead back.
Eagle Valley (20-6) is still alive in the double-elimination tournament and will face No. 1 Lewis-Palmer, which was upset by No. 9 Cheyenne Mountain 3-1, on Friday at 9:30 a.m. If the Devils are able to win three-straight games, they’ll advance to the 4A state semifinal on Saturday. All of the tournament’s games are being live streamed
